Saint Xavier has started the season 0-2 has now won three straight and have seemingly beaten the injury bug that plagued them in the early season. SXU's recent wins have entered them into the poll at #18. Their opponent this week, Ohio Dominican, dropped to #17 after this weekend's loss to Saint Francis (Ind.). USF's big win has allowed the Cougars to move up from #4 to #2 even though #3 Sioux Falls (S.D.) and #4 Missouri Valley won games this weekend.

So itapos;s said we are in a crisis and the stocks played on the sun soaked sliding board, not wanting another ride for burned bums and bandages, they all hung in the sawdust at the bottom piling up upon one another like fat children on the last day of summer. The ones at the bottom suffocating, their parents left heart broken and crying in the park while others carried their little ones home, third degree burns on their bottoms, not going to be allowed back on the slide for some time. And there is outrage that the sun has been allowed to bake the surface of the slide and why hasnapos;t the city done something about this danger to our children???

A howl is heard as a manufactured mommy laments above the lifeless body of her glandular riddled hyperactive, on medication for sensitivity and attention disorders 7 year old. His nikes untied and scuffed, apos;he had kickedapos;, someone mentions, apos;he put up a good fightapos;.

And this is just the fire, apos;someone must payapos;

And not someone, someones

And another voice in anger agrees. And soon there is a swarm, and through their girth and velocity the small voice of the pigeon feeder is not hear. Her weathered hands shifting seeds over the ground in the same methodical way sheapos;s been doing for 50 years, before the seats were plastic, when the ground was gravel. She doesnapos;t look up, she looks down knowing that nobody will listen, because nobody ever has. She says

"There is a sign, at the entrance to the playground. It says "play at your own risk" it was there long before I was here, and I suppose itapos;ll be here long after Iapos;m gone. People used to read it and then one day you just stopped, a pity actually. I quite liked the notion"

and she shuffles along humming and waiting for her favorite pigeon to come for dinner, but he doesnapos;t show, and she wanders home, perhaps tomorrow, and if not, perhaps the next.

New England Clam Chowder is Boston and if you are reading this from somewhere like Hilltown or Mobile and you donapos;t know the difference between New England Clam Chowder and Manhatten, itapos;s the color (some other things as well, like tomoatos and milk) but mostly itapos;s the color.

Now dont get all excited about a recipe for donuts as Id suggest a dozen or so assorted kinds at Dunkin Donuts. My recipe is for apple cider that will go quite well with those great tasting donuts.
1. Obtain the apples. You will want to choose apples that give you the tartness and color you prefer, and often, blending different varieties is the best way to accomplish this. Red Delicious: Large, firm red apple with a sweet flavor. I like this kind the best but then variety is the spice of life and isnt that what apple cider is all about? A good ole spicy beverage? Yellow Delicious: Large, firm yellow apple with a sweet flavor. Yes sir, your apple cider is going to be right tasty.
2. Clean your apples thoroughly, cutting out any bruises or damaged parts. As a rule, it is not recommended to use any fruit for cider you would not eat as it is.
3. Quarter the apples, leaving the skins on them for color and the nutrients that processing will release. Lots of good vitamins are in those skins.
4. Puree the apple quarters in a food processor or blender completely.
5. Squeeze the pureed apple through a cheesecloth, extracting all of the juice possible. Store the cider in a sealed container below 40 degrees fahrenheit for up to 2 weeks, or freeze for extended storage. I guess I didnt tell you that your cider that you make today wont be good until Mid-October.
A note of caution must be expressed in that you will need to pasteurize your cider by heating it to at least 160 F but no more than 185 F which will destroy any harmful bacteria such as e coli. And if youre a mite finicky about all this, just go down to your supermarket and get the already made apple cider. See through apple cider is not the best as you want yours to be a tad cloudy. Then all you need is a good appetite and of course those dunkin donuts. Have at it.

Our research report: The American River Parkway: Recreation, Education, Sanctuary has been posted to our website and here is the executive summary:

Executive Summary

1) Many Meanings

The American River Parkway means so many things to the many different people who explore it.

For families and their children it is a deep laboratory of educative experience and recreational communion; for bird watchers it is a continually discovering treasury of winged creatures from far and near; to the fisherman a rich harvest of seasonal joy; to the biker, horseback rider, and hiker, a pleasant traverse through beauty close to urban and suburban home.

2) New Parkway Plan

One of the major items we worked on during the initial planning period for the formation of ARPPS in 2002 was to encourage organized advocacy to finally conduct the planning update process that was mandated to be done every five years in the original Parkway Plan of 1985, but had not been done since.

Soon after, the update process began and now is reaching completionfor which we are very happyand the community should feel some sense of pride in the work that has been done.

The crucial piece of the completion is to ensure that in the future, the update process sticks to the original five year sequence of review and update, as new issues will evolve requiring new planning.

3) Recreation

The most important reality to preserve in the work of the American River Parkway Preservation Society is that of the people to experience the Parkway fully, safely, and enjoyably; to absorb the sanctuary of an approximately 4,600 acre garden along the banks of the American River where families can walk, ride their bikes, ride horses, raft, fish, swim, sun themselves on the beaches and in the parks, play golf, have picnics, bird watch, jog, and just plain sit in a sunny spot and watch the river and people go by.

With horse-drawn carriages, bike rentals from downtown hotels and the increased public safety presence in the downtown and North Sacramento area of the Parkway long advocated for; we can envision people visiting Sacramento, staying in those downtown hotels, venturing out on the Parkway to get to golf courses, outdoor concerts and plays in Discovery Park, Paradise Beach, Sacramento State, Rancho Cordova, Gold River, Fair Oaks Village, Effie Yeaw and other Nature Centers, the Fish Hatchery, Nimbus Lake, old town Folsom, and links that are being established from new developments to the Parkway such as the proposed Folsom South Canal Corridor Plan.

4) Education

The primary educational experience of the Parkway is centered around the Effie Yeaw Nature Center http://www.effieyeaw.org/ with its multitude of educational events and publications directed towards the deepening of appreciation around the natural resources of the Parkway.

Unfortunately there is only one nature center in a Parkway of about 30 miles stretching from Folsom Lake to the confluence of the Sacramento River and several more are needed.

5) Sanctuary

The central aspect of the value of the Parkway is that of sanctuary, where urban and suburban residents can retreat into the natural environment for recreation, spiritual and psychological refreshment; and buildings (other than nature centers, golf course related structures, the Indian Heritage Center, and public accommodations) should not be allowed.

6) Conclusion

How do we accomplish all of this? How do we preserve, protect, and strengthen our Parkway so that the balance of educational, recreational and sanctuary experience is enhanced for all of us?

We can begin by looking to those parks where this has been done, and to those local resources able to help us get our Parkway to the future we envision: We want our Parkway, seven generations from now, to be a vibrant, accessible, and serene sanctuary, nourishing and refreshing the spirit of all who enter it.

This year our focus has been on strengthening the Parkway in those daily usage venuesseeing and appreciating, with a call for a substantial increase in land acquisition and developed recreation areas to strengthen the Parkways footprint; and encouraging more and safer usage through a dedicated pedestrian trail freeing up the existing paved trail for bikes only, more picnic areas and park benches for passive appreciation accompanied by easier access for the frail elderly and handicapped, now virtually excluded, and more nature centers in communities like Rancho Cordova, North Sacramento, Rosemount, and Sutters Landing.

However, the single most important issue impacting recreation, education, and sanctuary, is the lack of public safety, particularly in the lower third area of the Parkway, where illegal homeless camps have been allowed for years, and where even park directors privately warn people not to venture alone.

Always a lotta talk about who dominates the pro game. What region across North America produces the most pro ball players?
Some of the crew at NLL Insider is actually working on a pretty cool long term project looking at what junior system produces the lacrosse players, but today were just gonna take a quick look at the basics.
What region produced the most pro ballers in 2008?
We broke it down based on six regions/backgrounds looking at a players roots. So its gonna be; British Columbians, Albertans, Saskatchewanians (Phillys David Mitchell and yes, if youre from Saskatchewan you are apparently a Saskatchewanian), Ontarians (with two Montrealers thrown-in that made Orangeville home), Native Americans, and Americans.
No more Aussies, but Gordon Purdie, respect brother.
We looked at the 295 players that saw minutes last winter. So with that said, after the jump, check out how last years NLL roots broke down.

healthy Arcadia team. Rosemead is very physical up front, arguably the most physical team aside from the two teams above. Tra Sumlar did not play last week but to see Rosemead get blown out was a bit of a surprise. The Panthers are the kind of team year in and year out where you can always count on them to have a 7-3, 8-2 season. Rosemead will prove to be too much for Temple City on Friday.
4. SAN MARINO (3-0) -- (Previously No. 5) So the Titans beat what is supposed to be a good La Salle team but aside from that San Marino has not been tested. Hoover was a nice confident-booster so expect the Titans to finally get challenged when they host Cantwell. Still, it should not go unnoticed the fact that this Titans team is a much different team we almost sadly were beginning to get used to. San Marino can put up some points and if they can do the same against Cantwell, which I think they can even though Robledo doesn't think so, then we'll find out how good these guys really are. It won't get any easier for San Marino the following week when they take on San Gabriel, the supposed football program sponsored by yours truly and the Star-News. Ha, hilarious.
5. SAN GA
IEL (2-2) -- (Previously No. 8) The Matadors move up three spots from last week. The Matadors rolled through South Pasadena but had a hard time against Cathedral and Serra. The true measuring stick was going to be Temple City which had just come off a tough loss to Alhambra. San Gabriel proved its worth when it initiated a 90-yard drive which proved to be the winning drive. I said the TC-SG game was going to be close and that the Matadors would pull away. People called me crazy but that's exactly how it turned out.
6. ARCADIA (1-2) -- (Previously No. 4) The Apaches proved that when healthy they can compete. The team we saw against St. Francis and Lynwood is clearly not the same without Todd Golper. Fortunately for Arcadia they play Hoover so they should record a W and build its confidence with plenty of scoring. If the Apaches struggle WITHOUT Golper, who is not expected to play, then Arcadia is in much more trouble than it thinks. If Golper returns healthy by the Glendale game then don't expect Arcadia to miss the playoffs. It should be noted that Golper has not played since St. Francis and won't play this week. My feeling? I feel sorry on the first running play by Glendale. That RB is gonna get KO'd.
7. MONROVIA (2-2) -- (Previously No. 7) We all knew Marquise Williams was talented. And with a new coach it was only a matter of time until Williams felt comfortable with the new offense and schemes. It's looking like he, Nick Bueno and Kendall Boggs are finally feeling comfortable. And it's looking like Monrovia and TC will be vying for the Rio Hondo League title. It might be premature to say such a thing but at this point my money's on those two programs. A lot of guys don't know about Beckman but having previously worked in Orange County I can tell you Monrovia shutdown a good offensive team in the Patriots. I feel that victory was when the Wildcats finally turned the corner.
8. MARANATHA (3-0) -- (Previously No. 9) Maranatha had a bye but still they moved up largely in part because of TC's loss and yet another come-from-behind victory by Alhambra. I would bet that if the Minutemen played against Alhambra or TC that would be a close game. Maranatha needs to take care of business on Friday against Mojave if it wants to stay at No. 8. Last year, the Minutemen were humbled when they traveled to Mojave and lost. To put it best, Coach Joel Murphy said it was embarrassing.
9. ALHAM
A (2-1) -- (Previously No. 10) These boys need to get their act together. They've been having to come-from-behind in their last two wins. Mitchell Crockom, as good as he is, is proving to be prone to fumbles. Dude needs to hold on to the ball tighter. Alhambra is an OK team right now at best but if they can find a way to add a running game to its attack then they can become a superb team and a force to be reckoned in the Almont League. Silly mistakes, fumbles and penalties will hurt much more when they run into more disciplined teams come league.
10. TEMPLE CITY (1-2) -- (Previously No. 6) I'm not one to question any coach's decisions on the field. I'm more curious than anything as to why Joey Stewart was not carrying the ball as many times as he did in the first half. Things seemed to be working when he had 18 carries in the first half and from what I've read and heard he had only four carries in the second half. And then you ask Stewart to give you a first down on fourth and 2 at midfield? Not sure about that. The Rams no doubt are a battle-tested team. I'll go on the record here and say that if Temple City loses on Friday that won't be enough to drop them from the polls. But to suddenly be 1-3 after such an impressive start will be a bit of a mystery.

This church today doesnt use the choir loft and Im not sure as to why? When I was a boy the senior choir used it every Sunday. The kids choir, of which I was a member, only got to use the main loft once or twice a year. We were usually found in the balcony at the end of the sanctuary. That is where the echo and tower organ were housed. It was a rather large balcony that was largely used only on overflow services.
Just under that red carpet was an interesting passageway which we referred to as the tunnel. In bad weather the choir would move through there to get to the rear of the sanctuary for a choir processional to the loft. If the childrens choir was singing we began our processional from the front two doors of the sanctuary to begin our walk to the balcony.
On Palm Sunday the children of the church would march down that red carpet with palm branches before the choirs began their processional and since All Glory, Laud, and Honor, the processional hymn, is only three verses long, it had to be played through several times to get everyone where they were supposed to be.
I just cant understand why they moved the choir to where you can find them now, up front and to the right of the main portion of the church, especially with such a great loft directly in front of the congregation.

Some of you may know that Johnny and I were prepared to take a week vacation, our first since before coming to Guatemala. We had finished with the teams scheduled for the summer and had a break of a couple of months before the next team. Frankly, we were looking forward to the break! Headed for the Gulf of Mexico, sun, fishing, with a bag full of paperbacks, we arrived in Guatemala City to find we had an email stating our vacation had been cancelled! It seemed there were not enough bookings for the trip we were taking, so the company had to cancel it. Of course we were disappointed, but our cloud had a silver lining. As we look at the weather for our part of the world, it appears that even in our disappointment, God is protecting us. We are thankful that even with our desires, He protects us from what would harm us! So we have rescheduled and continue to look forward to our restful vacation. Hopefully there will be sun, good fishing and dry paperbacks.

16O9O8 - Bich's 17th Birthday.

Boy am I happy that the prelims are over! Boy, it was just last week that everything was over... technically it was just last week... BUT THAT"S NOT THE POINT! I'm so happy that I don't have to worry that much anymore! I can finally sleep well without worrying about having a test in just a couple of hours, then again, lately it's been so hot that it's not that easy to sleep anyways.

You know, I can't believe that I went to school last Wednesday, thinking that I had my SLRS 1 unit test! I went there and all i saw was Extension Maths people there! I was wondering... where on EARTH were all the SLRS people went to! Then people started telling me that there wasn't a 1 unit SLRS exam! DAMN! Sarina accompanied me to Mr. Donohue to ask about it, and damn, I stand corrected. Then we went to the PE room in hope of asking Miss De-Carli herself, but she wasn't there, so Miss Vallak told me about it instead. Darn! I thought the only thing changed was chemistry, from Bich's information anyways. Okay, even if there was a test (when there isn't), it would've been at 12:30PM so I went to for no reason at all! I couldn't be bothered to go home again because the weather was kind of windy, so I stayed at school and watch Mitchell and Linda study for Modern History. Later on, I went walking to the station with Jenny, so it wasn't so lonely. I saw Brenda and Jessica G. at Cabramatta station. Both of them were preoccupied with something. Yes, I took the bus home and fell asleep straight away!

Okay, my exams were ... managable I guess? I managed to finished all the questions for the majority of my exams, so that's okay. The whole week passed so fast, and yet so slow. I don't know how to explain it but it's just at times you'd think the time had pass so quick, but at other times, you'd wish the time would slow down a bit more. Anyways, Friday! It was our very last day of exams. I had Biology and Extension English on the same day and neither of them had I seriously planned my exams out, if you know what I mean. BUT! I did study. Unlike my other exams, I really attempted studying, I really tried hard and study so I think I'll be okay what the marks would come out as. You know, I don't think Mr. Ward took it seriously with our test because most of us finished like about half an hour early and was just going over answers or doodling around. I attempted to entertain Cathleen and Lisa L. but they weren't impress. So much for my clown career... LOL! Extension English was next, and that was just ... yuck!

YAY! All exams finished! It's finally over! Everyone quickly grabbed their bags and went outside cheering and screaming and all pleased that it's finally over. We all just stood around for a bit before we left. I accidentally ripped my skirt (thank God it was on the sem) while I jumped over the fence *coughcough.* Titan, Sarina, Vincent and I waited for Kelly just outside the school area. We took turns playing with Titan's bike and I almost fell backwards on it when I attempted to ride uphill! Anyways, we walked and walked and blah blah blah. Let's just skip everything else and talk about the more exciting things. We met up with Katty; Titan had her first statement; Kelly, Sarina, Vincent and I went shopping for ingredients to cook at Titan's home, with Kelly and Vincent buying it all (Kelly paid the most xO!); as amateurs, we helped each other cook the food, Vincent did the frying and soup; we ate, content and satisfied; made fruit salad with vanilla icecream. The end.

So that's how we celebrated the finish of ours exams! I can't believe it but camp is just tomorrow! WOOT WOOT! :)

PS. Bich's birthday was on the same day as our 2 unit maths exam! Oh dear O_o'. Don't you just hate it when you have an exam on your birthday? However, I'm sure Bich will have really good marks for it! It was her birthday afterall.

The Hershey Bears made their first cuts of 2008-09 today, sending 10 players to assorted minor-league destinations. The reassigned players: Keith Johnson (South Carolina), Bryan Jurynec (Kalamazoo), Justin Bourne (Reading), Michael Wirll (Mississippi), Justin Sawyer (Oklahoma City), Tyson Marsh (Reading), Alexandre Parent (Mississippi), Bobby Goepfert (South Carolina), Christian Gaudet (Dayton), Colin Nicholson (Florida).
"I don't think any of them have anything to be ashamed of," Bears head coach Bob Woods said. "They came in here and did a great job. It's a tough situation how camp got kind of squashed here a little bit as far as time and everything. We had a look at guys.
"There wasn't one guy where I said, 'Oh, he can't play at this level.' To me, that's a good thing.

LA Clippers Report Training Camp Document

http://myespn.go.com/blogs/truehoop/0-34-63/Turmoil-to-Follow.html
Not surprisingly, a number of pundits are expecting that the Clips will descend quickly into chaos and that things will get quite ugly. As in, truly ugly, uglier than they ever were as long as SaintFElton was there to keep a steady hand on the tiller. Leaving out, of course, the fact that FElton didn't play last year and his performance took a notable dip inthe 06-07 season, but those are minor quibbles.
I actually kind of like these pronouncements and the way that theylower expectations to the very bottom. And it's fun to pick out the inconsistencies. But with that said, there's still apparently no way to escape the "It's the Clippers" refrain. Is it just me, or are thereother teams that have performed worse over the last three years, once you factor in losing a franchise player for the season due to injury?
But let's get to those inconsistencies.
The Nuggets did beat out the Cllps. Maybe that's because they're looking like an absolute train wreck, with a pair of stars who haven't gelled together and all sorts of other problems. A bad defensive team got rid of their two best defensive players. The stars, Melo and AI, are more than a little bitter about the team shedding Camby, who made huge contributions with rebounding and shot-blocking, for nothing, while the less-than-formidable Martin and Nene are still around and still makingbig money.
But while Camby's veteran presence and productivity is sorely missed on the Nuggets, it apparently doesn't count for much on the Clippers. Despite the fact that Camby isa more productive rebounder and shot-blocker than FElton, and that Denver'sstar players will sorely miss his professionalism and locker-room influence, hecan't replace Brand and the teamcould be headed for real trouble. Camby can be a strong, helpful presence with AI and Melo, but it appears he won't have the same effect on Baron Davis andKaman, Thornton, and others. Curious.
The big argument favoring Clipper turmoil isthe fact that Baron Davis is a maverick, while MDunleavy is a buttoned-up control freak. It is kind of interesting that GSW didn't get any"turmoil" votes, but I guess a team that loses its best playerand then loses his replacement, which still has no center or viable interior presence, might be bad butwill still be relatively happy because Don Nelson's the coach and they're going to be jacking up shots. There were no votes for GSW, so I guess losing Baron Davis won't reallyaffect them, and we don't get the chance to discuss how the good qualities that will be missed on GSW won't have the same effect on the Clippers. Too bad. Maybe there weren't any, like the way he scored tons of points and took over games andbig shots andbecame unstoppable in the playoffs.GSW still has the Camby and Brand-like mature, steadying influence of Stephen Jackson, so they definitely should be fine andeasygoing when thingsget tough.
About that Baron Davis/Dunleavy thing: yes, there's a chance that Dunleavy could put on his stubborn face and decide that his new franchise player doesn't know how to play basketball and lead him to the doghouse, and things could get very bad. But I happen to think that chance is exceedingly small, for a number of reasons. First, Davis signed with the Clippers as a choice. Dunleavy wooed him and supervised the deal. Davis has been in the league long enough to know Dunleavy very well. Davis is from LA and he knows the town and the Clippers. So if he thought that the team and the coach were poison and that there were bound to be conflicts, he wouldn't have made the deal. Of course, there's a major FElton complication in all of this, because it seems that Davis' primary intent may have beento play with FElton. But it turns out that it wasn't--hismost basic intent was to make a good 5-year deal and come home and play for the Clippers. The given in playing for the Clippers is playing for Dunleavy, and in the end FElton was less than reliable. Dunleavy and the Clippers have backed up their commitment to Davis by working hard to put the best team possible together during the offseason, using their capspace on Camby, making an offer to Buike, signing RDavis, JWill, Skinner and others. It's been a strong show of support. And with all of the moves and the veterans the Clips are still major capspace players for 2010, with substantial expiring contracts for next season. Dunleavy, who is the primary architect for all this, is doing everything possible to build a highly competitive team around Baron Davis.
So, naturally, Dunleavy is going to treat him badly and try to mold him into his kind of player. The naysayers aren't factoring in how generous Dunleavy has been with the veterans that he has signed or brought in. Maybe you have to be a close Clipper watcher like we are to have this kind of understanding, but the pundits are, after all, professionals. Dunleavytreats his veteransextremely well. Dunleavy gave Maggette and Wilcox a very hard time, but he inherited those guys. Cassell and Mobley were both malcontents and gunners, with much more problematic reputations and skillsets than Davis. Dunleavy made Cassell his on-court partner and gave him the widest latitude imaginable, and Mobley has been transformed into an upstanding, model veteran citizen. While Wilcox was dismissed, Tim Thomas has been able to play his game with a free will and log a couple thousand smiling minutes of little defense, no rebounding, and hundreds of missed 3-pt shots, with Dunleavy as his strong defender throughout. Dunleavy may be stubborn, but he's stubbornly loyal in supporting "his" guys. And Baron Davis is going to be his guy--if you think that Dunleavy was effusive in his praise and faith in FElton and Cassell, just wait to see how he treats BD.
But hey, it's the Clippers. So of coursethere's going to be turmoil. What am I thinking.
