Fans have never wanted hockey tickets for Pittsburgh Penguins as much as they do now. The Pittsburgh Penguins are a professional ice hockey team belonging to the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference of the National Hockey League. The team is based in Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. Ever since the Penguins started playing, their home arena has been the Melon Arena. However, they will relocate to a new arena from the 2010-11 NHL season.

The Highs And Lows Of The Team

The Pittsburgh Penguins were established as an expansion team in 1967 when the NHL expanded from six to twelve teams. It has won the Stanley Cup twice, once in the 1990-91 season and the other in 1991-92 season. The pairing of the Mario Lemieux and Jaromir Jagr in the 1990-91 season facilitated the Stanley Cup victory. After winning the Cup, the Pittsburgh Penguins were invited to call on President George H.W. Bush. Thus, they became the first NHL team to visit the White House. The Penguins were an impressive team all through the 1990s.

Unfortunately, through most of the teams history, they have had to struggle with financial difficulties. This had an effect on the composition of the team, as they often could not afford draft talented players. This resulted in the poor performance of the team and consequently the demand of the hockey tickets for Pittsburgh Penguins games was low for many years. In 1975, the team became bankrupt and it was only the intervention of a group, which included Wren Blair that prevented its closure.

In 1998 the Pittsburgh Penguins filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and was again faced with the choice of moving or closing. Mario Lemieux was one of the principle creditors as his salary had been deferred for years and now amounted to millions of dollars. At this juncture, he offered to convert his salary into equity and take over the team. Lemieux had retired in 1997 and was inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame in the same year. However, in the year 2000 after taking over the Penguins, he came out of his retirement, much to the astonishment of the hockey community. He thus became the first player-owner in the history of NHL.

Thereafter to make the team financially viable, several top players like Jagr, Frantisek Kucera and Alexei Kovalev had to be traded. This affected the teams performance. During the 2003-04 NHL season the purchase of hockey tickets for Pittsburgh Penguins games were at an all-time low. On an average only 11,877 fans attended each game. It was only due to stringent control on the costs that the Penguins could repay of all debts by 2005.

The Penguins staged a comeback after the acquisition of the prolific scorer Sidney Crosby. They became the finalists of the 2007- 08 Stanley Cup with the efforts of players like Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Sergei Gonchar and Jordan Staal. However, the Detroit Red Wings defeated them in the finals. Since then, the hockey tickets for Pittsburgh Penguins games have been in great demand. In certain instances the tickets for their home playoffs have got sold out in 15 minutes.

A convenient and secure way to obtain the hockey tickets for Pittsburgh Penguins games is through an authorized ticket broker. You can even get premium tickets and tickets of sold-out matches through them. You can check the seating arrangement and buy the tickets of your choice online through their website. The tickets will be delivered to you the next day itself. So get set to watch the resurgent Penguins on the ice!

Apparently, chirping was high for my no-show the week after my "we play EVERY Saturday" speech. Guilty, no worries, I'm back this week. Ideal street hockey fall weather is in the forecast for Saturday. Let's set up at Greenwood again this week. Bigger surface to accomodate good fall turnout. Plan on showing up at the school at 13:30 to help set up so we can start play at 2 pm. Habs on the telly at St.A afterwards. Game on.

Oct. 2 (Bloomberg) -- Wachovia Corp. Curbed access to a $9.3 billion investment fund used by more than 900 colleges to pay salaries, maintenance and other expenses and said it plans to sell the portfolio by the end of the year.

Colleges can only redeem 34 percent of their investments in the short-term Commonfund because of the ``liquidity squeeze, apos;apos; said Laura Fay, a spokeswoman for Charlotte, North Carolina-based Wachovia, in an interview. Earlier this week, Wachovia had capped availability at 10 percent.

Fay said the ``unprecedented environmentapos;apos; in the market contributed to Wachoviaapos;s decision to curtail the fund and plan its closure by Dec. 31. The vote Sept. 29 by the U.S. House of Representatives rejecting a $700 billion financial-rescue package influenced the decision, she said. Wachovia agreed Sept. 29 to sell its banking operations to Citigroup Inc.

Whether the fund can provide all of the money to the colleges ``depends if some of the pressure eases in the market place,apos;apos; Fay said. ``Our intent is to unwind the portfolio in as prudent a way as possible and provide as much liquidity as we can.apos;apos;

Wachoviaapos;s move took the Commonfund by surprise, said John Griswold, executive director of the Commonfund Institute, the research arm of the Wilton, Connecticut-based investment adviser.

``Wachovia was the trustee of the fund and they resigned and closed it,apos;apos; Griswold said in a telephone interview. ``Everybody was upset to hear this news, especially at the end of a quarter, when they have to make payroll and cover expenses, and it was uncertain how quickly they could get access.apos;apos;

Hockey sticks are one of the most fun pieces of hockey equipment to shop for. Why? Because they come in so many different variations that finding the right one for your game is both a challenge and a kick. If you have already picked out what type of stick you are looking for (i.e. wood, two piece, one piece) you are halfway there. Next, you need to pick out the best pattern for your hockey stick’s blade.
The pattern of hockey sticks is essentially three things - the loft, the lie, and the curve.
- The Loft: This is the angle of which the face of the blade is open. Less loft means more level flight while more loft will mean more hang time
- The Lie: This is the angle of the blade to the shaft. With the proper lie, the blade should be level with the ground when you have your hockey equipment on. If you have to lean over or stand up straight to get the blade level, you have the wrong lie.
- The Curve: In addition to the loft and the lie, the curve of the blade is the other important component of the blade pattern. The type of curve is determined by where the curve begins in the blade. There are three types: the toe (the tip of the blade), mid, and heel. The depth of the curve of is a preference that comes with experience. Some prefer a slight curve while others prefer a deep curve.
In hockey, blade patterns for most brands are named after famous players who preferred those specific blade specifications. Unfortunately, knowing your favorite pattern in one brand won’t help find a comparable pattern in another brand because each brand uses different player’s names. Therefore, you must know the details of the loft, the lie and the curve that suit you best.
Experienced players can use this information to adjust their stick purchasing to better fit their play. Newcomers to the sport are encouraged to select hockey sticks with little to no curve until they develop their own preferences.

Our college floor hockey team was called the Charlestown Chiefs. We still talk about "the Chiefs" getting together when my old college friends call.

We love Slap Shot. This isn't unique to hockey fans. I am from Binghamton and live near Syracuse. I've worked with countless people who tell stories of seeing Paul Newman during the filming of Slap Shot in the area.

We love Reggie Dunlop, and we love that real movie fans know this role represented a major turning point for his career. Paul Newman was no longer just good looking. Reggie Dunlop is an underrated performance, often overshadowed by the schtick of the Hanson Brothers.

And we love Paul Newman. The Sting, Nobody's Fool, that list goes on for a long time. We drank some of his Newman's Own coffee this morning, not knowing.

I don't usually get too worked up when celebrities die, because I don't know them. But Paul Newman reminded me enough of some of the important people in my life that I feel this one.

My facebook update said Thursday morning, for no particular reason other than I was thinking about hockey, "Bryan wants to thank Reg Dunlop. So, thank you."

Now it says, "Bryan wants to thank Reg Dunlop. And Paul Newman. We'll miss you.

Hockey Notes - September 26th

San Jose started a healthy mix of 10 regulars and 8 prospects with Evgeni Nabokov in goal for the second preseason game against the Anaheim Ducks Friday night at HP Pavilion. With the top line of Marleau-Thornton-Clowe and the Blake-Vlasic pairing scratched, the focus shifted to the second line of Michalek-Pavelski-Cheechoo and Dan Boyle and Christian Ehrhoff on the blueline.

Anaheim backup goaltender Jonas Hiller struggled with traffic in front, but the top line of Perry-Marchant-Miller and the physical play of right wing Bobby Ryan down low improved as the game wore on. Chris Pronger was boo'd almost every time he touched the puck, making it easy to keep an eye on his play.

Jonathan Cheechoo opened with an early hooking penalty on Todd Marchant. Corey Perry misses center Andrew Ebbet with a pass in front, Drew Miller called for holding the stick to negate the rest of the man advantage. Sharks 2007 1st round draft pick Logan Couture easily stickhandles around defenseman Brian Salcido on the left wing, resulting in a low percentage shot short side.

Later in the period, defenseman Jason Demers takes a nice feed on the point from defenseman Mike Moore and unloads a low slapshot that rebounds up high in the slot. Milan Michalek knocks the puck down, but Joe Pavelski hammers it past an extended Hiller for the first goal of the game (assists Michalek, Demers). It was Pavelski's first goal of the preseason.

Derek Joslin, who scored a goal in the first preseason game in Anaheim, fires a hard slapshot from the point that sails over the top of the net and deflects loudly off the glass. Ducks move the puck up ice and into the Sharks zone. Left wing Drew Miller and center Todd Marchant go into the corner with possession, nice play by Logan Couture and Lukas Kaspar to seal off their men, gain possession, and move the puck out. Couture finishes his shift with a hard check on defenseman Steve Montador up against the end boards.

Jonathan Cheechoo leads Michalek with a nice pass at center ice, and Michalek is able to blow by two Anaheim Ducks to direct a weak shot on Hiller. Pronger finishes the play by checking Michalek up against the glass, both teams scuffle briefly as a result. Next shift for Logan Couture, he hit Dan Boyle with a long cross ice pass through the Anaheim slot. Hiller is in position to make the save on Boyle, but Montador is called for a hooking penalty on the play.

Sharks power play unit is starting to click. Ehrhoff pinches on one attempt to fire the puck on net and then follows by sneaking in even furthur. The second attempt by Ehrhoff leads to a Plihal backhand from the crease. Anaheim responds with their best offensive chance of the game to this point, a tip on the doorstep just wide of Evgeni Nabokov.

Second half of the first period, the Sharks break out to a 4-on-1 against Jonas Hiller. Michalek with the puck hesitates, and then hits Jonathan Cheechoo trailing the play for a 1-timer. Hiller gets over in time to smother a shot that was against the grain and back in on his body. Travis Moen is called for charging, earning another Sharks power play.

The Sharks first power play unit consists of Setoguchi, Morris, Roenick, Ehrhoff and Boyle. The Ducks first penalty kill unit consists of Pahlsson, Niedermayer, O'Donnell and Pronger. Boyle, a right shot on the left side, and Ehrhoff, a left shot on the right side, are a dynamic defensive pairing. Mike Morris hits Setoguchi with a hard pass in the slot, but Setoguchi's stick is checked on the play and he can not control the puck. Boyle unloads a heavy point shot on the left side, puck deflects wide. On the opposite point, Ehrhoff fires another point shot. Hiller is in position to make the save. Michalek tried to tip a low shot, with Michalek and Cheechoo collapsing on net for a rebound, but Michalek is checked to the ice by O'Donnell. No explanation for O'Donnell and Michalek drawing roughing penalties on the play, it should be either one player or the other earning a call. Michalek's penalty should read 2 minutes for hitting the ice too hard. Boyle and Ehrhoff at this point look like they can play an entire 2 minute power play without much of a problem.

Anaheim center #48 Andrew Ebbett, who scored 18 goals and 54 assists in 74 games played for the AHL Portland Pirates last season, danced around a Sharks defenseman to get a shot on goal. Excellent display of skill. Sharks earn another power play on a Steve Montador interference penalty. A very quick Riley Armstrong breaks into the zone and snaps a shot on Jonas Hiller. Sharks keep it in the zone, and Derek Joslin unloads a heavy shot from the point that deflects off Hiller. #55 Mike Moore is called for interference. On the ensuing faceoff, Cheechoo is checked by O'Donnell up against the glass near the photographers. Next sequence Roenick bobbles the puck as a lane closes, but he skates 5 feet up ice to find a new lane and hits Mike Moore with a long cross ice pass. Moore shoots the puck into the body of Hiller. Second attempt by Setoguchi in close shortly after.

The heavyweights George Parros and Jody Shelley drop the gloves at 17:30. Two hard rights by Parros start the fight as the crowd cheers loudly. Jody Shelley lands several glancing blows as Parros starts to jab with the hand holding Shelley's jersey. Shelley opens a cut on Parros with a hard punch that connects square, but Parros is busy throwing wildly. Refs seperate a fairly even fight, but the crowd roars when a bloody Parros is shown on the giant video screen skating off the ice.

Devin Setoguchi is called for a penalty with 1:23 remaining, 2 minutes for hooking Logan MacMillan. Boyle, Moore, Michalek and Pavelski are the Sharks first penalty kill unit. Ryan, Miller, Perry, Pronger and Salcido are the first power play unit for Anahiem. Perry shot/pass from the right side finds Ryan in front, Nabokov covers the net low and makes the save. Anaheim gets the puck back over to Perry on the half boards, who fires another shot/pass which deflects off Nabby's left leg pad. Ebbett is there to hammer the rebound home for Anahiem, game tied 1-1 (assists Perry, Pronger at 19:59).

Both teams were held scoreless in the second period, with San Jose outshooting Anaheim 12-6. Perry-Marchant-Miller line strong early in the second period. After an extended cycle, Jeremy Roenick takes a hooking penalty. On the penalty kill, Joe Pavelski gains possession on the right side, pulls up and misses a streaking Michalek in the slot.

A hard check by defenseman Mike Moore on Travis Moen to keep the puck in the zone starts a scuffle. Moen is a veteran in the fight game going up against a young defensive prospect looking to open eyes on the NHL ice. Several hard punches by Moen land early, he keeps up a high work rate. One off balance looping shot by Moore lands and stuns Moen briefly. Moen jabs with his hand wrapped in Moore's jersey, and eventually takes him down.

The scoring onslaught picked up in the third period. The Sharks scored 4 unanswered goals before George Parros finished the scoring late in the period. Milan Michalek drives with the puck past the net to the left, and tries to pass to Joe Pavelski in the crease. Pavelski is tied up, and the puck deflects directly to Dan Boyle who fires a shot passed Jonas Hiller for his first goal as a San Jose Shark (assists Pavelski, Michalek). Shortly after the goal, Joe Pavelski is called for a 2 minute hooking penalty on Logan MacMillan.

The crowd is loudly booing Chris Pronger each time he touches the puck, and several times when it just looks like he is going to receive a pass. A shot by #53 Brett Festerling pinballs off of two sticks and is turned into the corner by Nabokov's last second kick save. Later in the period, #55 Mike Moore receives a pass on the point and quickly releases a shot on net. Logan Couture sets up a screen in front with his stick high in the air, and the puck beats Hiller 5:29 into the third period (assists McGinn, Joslin).

The Ducks top line is dangerous on every shift. Correy Perry takes an entry pass into the offensive zone, and two quick strides give him seperation on the defense. Perry snaps a low shot wide, with a rebound off of Nabokov landing in the crease. Perry tries to lift the puck high, but Evgeni Nabokov is all over it with his glove. Crowd starts chanting Nab-by, Nab-by, Nab-by.

Reserve defenseman Alexei Semenov scores his first goal of the postseason at 6:42, with assists by Mike Morris and Tomas Plihal. Semenov fires from 15 feet inside the blueline with Plihal screening Hiller in front. The shot clears Jonas Hiller's right shoulder with no reaction from the Swiss goaltender, a good tell that he had no look at the puck. The Ducks answer on the next play, with Perry setting up in front of Nabokov. Left wing Drew Miller fires a shot/pass which is deflected by Perry up into the safety netting.

The pace of the third period has picked up considerably. A quick pass from Kaspar to Plihal results in a Plihal wrist shot. Sean O'Donnell checks Plihal hard after the play starting another scuffle. As the refs try to seperate the mass of players, Semenov comes flying in, reaches around two officials and ties up O'Donnell, who is trying to goad the much smaller Plihal into a fight. Fans start chanting Ducks suck, Ducks suck, after the play.

Sharks left wing Jamie McGinn scores the final goal of the game for San Jose at 12:21 (assists by Jonathan Cheechoo, Dan Boyle). A hard point shot by Boyle is directed in front of the net by Cheechoo. McGinn, planted in front of Jonas Hiller, spins and deposits the puck in the back of the net. A little over 2 minutes later, George Parros finishes the scoring at 14:50, with assists by Steve Montador and Brett Festerling. San Jose wins the second game of a home-at-home preseason series with Anaheim 5-2.

Roller Hockey Kensington style

Note: The following account is about our private struggle to get my son into a decent school. We started and then looked .
We lived in Fort Greene, Brooklyn at the time, so our options were not as varied as here.
So please just try to laugh and not get depressed. Because like my Mom used to say; at the end it will all work outYou live where? and your kids are going to PS 321?.

Well, we used to live in Park Slope when he was
in kindergarten, and then we moved here.

But you know the story about the
schools here she said.

Well, when I was a kid, all you did was
walk around the corner to PS 179".

"No trains to school, no fake addresses, no
parents ever really getting involved in anything
except maybe when you got beat up by another kid".

So just feeling as confident as ever about what I know
what I was talking about, I rambled on about Kensington in
the 1960's. And felt ever so confident about finding a school
for my son, even in 2003's Fort Greene.

And let me tell you theres nothing more powerful
and strong than Blind Brooklyn Confidence no matter
what someone else is telling you.

You know, its not like before, and if I was you,
Id get the ball rolling soon, she said.

And my wife, well, she got the ball rolling
long before I ever knew it was even round.

m going to sign up Andres at the Dillon school
on Washington Avenue tomorrow morning.
And Im leaving at 6 am".

Why? do you really think theres going to be a line?"

You know Ronnie, this isnt 1962 with little Ronnie
wearing his red bowtie and white shirt to PS 179.
Things are really different and youll find out.

And there she was a Texan from San Antonio, telling me Mr. Brooklyn how things are. My city, My Brooklyn and a telling me, ll see. How dare she! I bet you cant even spell Korvettes or even tell me what block Lou Ferrignos gym was on. Hey, where were you in the 77 blackout?, The Summer of Sam?, the day I got slapped by a nun at IHM?.

Yeah, thats right, NOT HERE IN
OOKLYN like me.
Not here in Brooklyn!

My wife left our apartment on Adelphi Street at 5:45 am to register our son at the Dillon School. I just laughed as she shut the front door, because they didnt open until 8.

The phone rang at 6 am.

Hello Ronnie, this is Gina,
I just wanted to let you know that there are
about twenty-five people on line already.

The good ship Blind Brooklyn Confidence"
took a hard hit, with flames on the starboard bow,
I could see a slight hole in its metal skin.

, why? I said.

You got to be serious about this Ronnie is all she said.
My son was registered by 10:30 am.

You know Im serious about it and always have been. I really never planned on my son NOT going to school or growing up wild in Prospect Park, with that nature guy showing him which leaves and berries he should eat. But the whole clock is ticking thing just wasnt me, and as my Mom always said, "it will all work out".

And then came the PS 8 story, and even Moms can be wrong.

Your doing what?" I said.

m volunteering in the library at PS 8,
Im going to try to see about getting a variance".

And of course knows what the deal is on this.

Does that mean hes in? I said.

s not a guarantee,
but Seth will do what he can," said my wife.

Now Seth was the principal of this school, and whenever it came to any direct questions he was rather evasive. But my wife was going to do the best to keep the ball rolling while I was still looking at a square cube. and wondering how it could roll.

Rock Star Principal.
The fundraiser at this school was a must do also.

Why do we have to go?
Is all I asked my wife.

You know Ronnie, its important for Seth to
know that were there to support the school".

Well, if its money they want why dont we
just give them a check?

Are you crazy! s illegal! said my wife.

Oh right, now let me tell you something folks, Ive been giving my garbage men a tip for years now. And they never question anything in the black bag unless theres a foot sticking out of it. Dont tell me about the power of the Brooklyn handshake with a 20 dollar bill cupped in your palm. I wasnt born yesterday you know.

And there we were.
The auditorium was packed to the gills.

You dont know Dan Zane a woman asked me.

No, I don I said.

Well, hes playing here today for our fundraiser and I hope you enjoy the show".

The noise, the screaming kids and my son crying all at once.
Wow, Im so excited because this is a total disaster.

And then he walked into the auditorium, like a rock star. People ran up to him to get his attention. Women had pens in their hands looking for an autograph. Grown men were in awe as he walked by. A small group of parents just hovered around him, slowly moving like the ring around Saturn. He was a ROCK STARWhy does Dan Zane look so dorky?
and wheres his guitar? I asked my wife.

s not Dan Zane, thats Seth the principal said my wife.

Brooklyn rage" just consumed me,
I couldnt believe my eyes,
it was all so sickening.
And he was no Ric Ocasek anyway.

We left the concert before the show even started and my wife quit the library committee a few weeks later.
We were once again at square one, and I was in deep shit.
The good ship Blind Brooklyn Confidence just hit an iceberg,
and we talked about leaving Brooklyn.

Now my wifes sister Mariadele had a lot to do with this. Her kids were anywhere from 5 to 10 years older than my son, and she has been there and done that with the whole school thing. And in Fort Greene no less, way before it was anywhere near being . So when it came to the subject of my wife had a head start because of her sisters experiences.

So well just send him to private school I said.
m sure there are tons of open spots,
because who wants to spend a thousand a month?

They both looked at me at the dinner table and started laughing.

When did you wake up?
Oh, dont tell me, your name is Austin Powers and youve
been in a time capsule frozen for the last 40 years.

I really didnt get that mad when they said that, because I thought Austin Powers was really cool.

But never the less, I still didnt get it.

So my wife called in downtown Brooklyn and they granted an , , or .
Just choose your poison kid.

My son Andres was not in a good mood the day he went to Packer for his . I wasnt there, but when my wife came home she said it t go that well.

You can bring him back again, said the woman at the school,
but my wife didnt ever bother. So there we were, two down and only one to go. And again we thought about leaving Brooklyn.

One day I saw them when I got home from work, the books on home schooling.

Home schooling?"
Werent the kids from the show the home schooled?"
"Or was it Donnie and Marie Osmond?

That whole idea just freaked me out. My wife all day at home in the house teaching? No other kids in the class to talk to?, no lunch box?, no notes being passed around? Having the same teacher year after year? How can a boy have a crush on his teacher if its his own Mom?

Well whats your idea then? asked my wife.
All you tell me is not to worry and everythings going to be Ok.
But you really havent brought any ideas to the table.

No, I really didnt have any ideas, she was right, I sucked.

Tim from Dillon gave me the number of this school in Bay Ridge,
its called Bay Ridge Prep. Im going to see if they have any spots open".

So more calls were made, and another observation was granted.

Say hello to Kate George, Andres said my wife.

My son wasnt in such a happy mood that day.
Who knows maybe that freakin Topham Hat from
Thomas the Train pissed him off today.
Or maybe that goofy dad from "Rollie Pollie Ollie",
God I hope he doesnt think Im like that.
Oh, that God Damn TV!

The precious observation.
Someone deciding if your kid can go to their school or not, all wrapped up in a fifteen-minute package.

Oh, thats Ok, I know its all awkward said Kate George.

She must have noticed the anxiety in our faces; just hoping my son didnt have a meltdown or anything, at least for now. Andres just walked around the classroom of kids he never met. Some small talk with a little girl, some looking at the art work on the walls. But still not as much interaction with the other kids as we hoped to as to impress the . We left the school feeling depressed, it just seemed like another failure.

My ship was taking on water fast, it was time to man the lifeboats. Once again we thought about leaving Brooklyn.
This all just sucked so much. The shit you have to put your own kid through to get them into a decent school. I think he knew what we were doing and deep down I was hoping he would just call some an "asshole" one day. Just so we can finally put this all to rest and leave this Rat hole of a city. For the first time in my life I was starting to hate my homeland, .
It was even getting to me.

The Miricle ".
I remember that day; I was off from work doing some home improvement stuff in the house. The phone rang.

Hello, yes this is she,
oh really, oh thats great,
and when do you need a deposit?
Ok thank you, bye.

My wife hung up the phone; she had tears in her eyes.
Ronnie, Andres was accepted at Bay Ridge Prep.

The game was over,
no time on the clock,
the ball finally stopped rolling.

My son will be going to school in September.
Praise the Lord, there is a God after all. and
most important, we dont have to leave Brooklyn.

I guess all I have to do now is figure out how I'm going to
pay the ten thousand dollars a year for private school.

And as my mom used to say "neccesity is the mother of invention". And so far it's been four years at Bay Ridge Prep and I'm still "inventing" ways of paying the tuition without going to jail.

Yeah, mom, I'm still "inventing" don't worry.

I know what your thinking, and I feel the same way. Its all kind of ridiculous and just should be easier. A subject that probably caused my Mom about as much stress as deciding what color bow tie I should wear to when I was going to PS 179, now stresses the living hell out of parents to no end. Its just so different than when I grew up here, but I hear you, Ill shut up.

And yes, I learned to listen and take in every word my sister in law and wife utter about education in New York, even if they are from Texas. I just sit there with my ears and eyes wide open, and a big cork in my mouth.

And Blind Brooklyn Confidence, well I take it out once and a while, its great for ping pong or a game of roller hockey. But when it comes to the subject of "school" in the boro of my birth, its somewhere at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Coney Island. Just rusting away deep in the sea, with the words,
I told you so scratched on the hull.

we salute. All indications from local hockey types and former hockey parents are that "Brownie" is a decent guy, although he was good enough at an early enough age he didn't spend much of his adolescence in the area. And, he fight.

Ithaca and Syracuse churn out a few decent big-timers every few years. Next up is this kid. A local hockey parent I see at work told me Iles is the complete package, and another hockey family told me about their nine-year-old being in awe of him at this summer's Empire State Games (by all accounts he's another in a long line of humble, decent hockey kids). He's not huge (NHL goalie pad sizing rules, I'm guessing, are a topic of discussion in this household), but he's apparently pretty finished and has the composure.

Ok. A couple more paragraphs and I'm going to feel like an AAU basketball coach. Off to find NHL 09 ... .

These aren't the greatest pics, but that is because Brady is going through a disliking of picture stage. But I thought I would brag on my son for a minute. We are in football season and his other chosen sport this year is hockey. So there aren't enough football practices for his liking, so he has really been working on his roller blading skills to prepare him for ice skates. Let me tell you, when he puts his mind to something, he gives it his all and then some. He spends a lot of time out in the garage and now is able to skate around in circles using the cross over turn skill and then make a quick turn around and head the other direction. These pics don't show it all but he is really doing well in our opinion. So I might end up being a hockey mom! I'd much rather be that then a pit bull! :) Lipstick is always better.

The daylong portentous clouds and accompanying apocalyptic weather in the NYC area made total sense after I read today's New York Post. Because for the first time in a long, long time (ever?), I kind of agree with Larry Brooks here. We are clearly in the end times.

Amidst the usual DiPietro deriding and general bashing of the Isles, Brooks actually makes some (hard to type this, hard to type this) good points. Trots has been working with the kids for the last few years and seems to be the type of guy who relishes the opportunity to shepherd a young team (although based on his infamous lengthy letter that earned him the Rangers' head coaching job, he seemingly relishes any opportunity to coach). Plus, he meshes with Wang's vision to honor the legacy of the franchise and also seems like the kind of guy who wouldn't be driven batshit crazy by the Wang "coaching by committee" system that would likely rankle already established coaches like Maurice, Tortorella, and Hartley. And, for the record (are you really keeping a record?...shame on you), I would prefer Goring but I can't imagine him not killing someone about three months into the Wang system. I'd be happy to be proven wrong, though. Or proven right depending on who he kills.

So, yeah, I think either Trottier or Goring is the way to go (though I pray they don't even consider Ulf Samuelsson for a minute...what a douche).

I would, however, be lying if I said that I wouldn't enjoy having a guy who knows to handle Larry Brooks behind the Isles' bench (some language NSFW, in case the context clues didn't tip you off).
